Bassetti: 'Satisfied. On the basis of the epidemiological evolution, masses with the faithful can be resumed (ANSA)

The general agreement on masses between the government and the Italian Episcopal Conference has been reached. "I express the satisfaction of myself, of the bishops and, more generally, of the ecclesial community for having come to share the lines of an agreement, which will allow, in the coming weeks, on the basis of the evolution of the epidemiological curve, to resume the celebration of the Masses with the people ", announced the President of the Italian Episcopal Conference, Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti. This means that, "probably by the end of the month", as Avvenire indicates, we could go back to all the liturgies. It is not improbable, according to the CEI newspaper, that the Eucharist with the presence of the faithful can resume already for the Ascension or for Pentecost, that is, either on 24 or 31 May.

"As a Church - Bassetti acknowledges - we shared, certainly with suffering, the limitations imposed to protect the health of all, without any desire to seek tears or shortcuts, nor to support anyone's flight forward; we moved in a perspective of responsibility, especially to protect the most exposed. I reiterate the importance of not letting your guard down but accepting health measures within the horizon of respecting everyone's health, as well as indications of the time needed to protect it in the best possible way ".

The Church of Sardinia could have accelerated since the governor Christian Solinas had already given the go ahead since May 4th. But the local bishops brake and await the indications of the CEI. In all of Italy, however, from Monday 4 May funerals will be allowed even if the provisions, between termoscanner and masks, are creating organizational complications, and the bishops respond in no particular order.
