The Guardia di Finanza is carrying out a series of searches and acquisitions of documents at the Link University of Rome as part of an investigation coordinated by the Rome prosecutor's office in which 14 people are investigated in various capacities in direct and indirect relations with the university. According to the investigation, it appears that the Link and the 'Consortium for research on intelligence and security services' would have simulated the execution of research and development projects that would have allowed them to enjoy tax credits.

Among the suspects are several top figures of the university including the rector Claudio Roveda, the president of the management company 'Gem' Vanna Fadini, the member of the board of directors and president of the school for Undergraduate and Graduate activities Carlo Maria Medal, the general manager Pasquale Russo.

By simulating the execution of research and development projects, the Link and the Consortium would have accrued - as stated in the search decree - "non-existent tax credits which they would then have used in compensation on the occasion of the payment of the taxes due by them".

The companies then "obtained back part of the money paid to the commission companies by issuing invoices for non-existent transactions with consequent financial movements to repay the amounts originally paid". The investigation stems from a series of reports from the economic and financial police force of Florence and Rome and from the Revenue Agency.
