UNITED KINGDOM

- Fines of up to 11,000 euros (10,000 pounds) may be imposed in England on those who refuse to self-isolate to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

The new regulations announced yesterday to stem the pandemic provide for this.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has introduced new restrictions for millions of people in areas with the highest rate of infection.

"The best way to fight this virus is for everyone to follow the rules and isolate themselves if they run the risk of transmitting the coronavirus," the premier said in a statement.

The new fines will start at a thousand pounds - in line with the termination of quarantine after international travel - and will go up to 10,000 for repeat offenders and more serious violations.

FRANCE

- Still alarming numbers in France.

In the last 24 hours, 13,498 new infections have been recorded, public health reported.

For the second consecutive day the threshold of 13,000 cases was exceeded, almost 300 more than in the previous budget.

58 new outbreaks reported.

INDIA

- The number of coronavirus cases in India has risen to 5.4 million after the 92,605 new cases of infections recorded in the last 24 hours.

These are the data communicated by the Federal Ministry of Health, reports the BBC online.

The country has recorded the highest number of cases in one day in the world since the beginning of August, second only to the United States, which has 6.7 million cases in terms of total infections.

SINGAPORE

- The Singapore government is deploying thousands of devices that can track where a person has been and who they interacted with.

The small bluetooth device is meant for those who don't own smartphones and can't use a contact tracking app which was previously implemented by the government.

While there are some data protection concerns, authorities say the token helps vulnerable groups feel safer when they're out and about.

For example, the device helps older people keep an accurate record of where they are.
