Covid-19 in France: 13,000 new cases in 24 hours, 1,600 people in intensive care

The positivity rate (proportion of the number of positive people compared to the total number of people tested) has now reached 12%, compared with 11.6% the day before.

Since the start of the epidemic in France, six months ago, 32,933 people have died from Covid-19, including 22,077 in hospital, where 87 more deaths have been reported in 24 hours.

151 new clusters

In addition, the number of patients entering intensive care has increased further, after a record reached on Monday, of more than 1,500 patients, never equaled since the spring.

There are now 987 patients admitted to intensive care during the last 7 days and they are currently 1642 occupying a bed, or 226 more than on Monday.

There are also 5,689 patients who entered the hospital for seven days due to Covid-19, or 8,949 patients still treated on Tuesday (with 1,168 new entries).

Finally, some 1,512 new clusters (foci of infection grouping together "at least three confirmed or probable cases, in a period of seven days", according to the definition given by Public Health France) are being investigated, i.e. 151 more than the day before.
