(ANSA) - BERLIN, 21 OCT - The word "race" will disappear from the German constitution. This is what Angela Merkel, Deputy Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Minister of the Interior Horst Seehofer agreed, according to the Sueddeutsche Zeitung, which writes it today on the front page. The initiative is due to a proposal from the Greens, which was initially rejected.
"The word race will be deleted, while the protection against racism will remain", writes the Munich newspaper.
Article 3 of the German Charter states that no one should be penalized or favored "because of his race". However, the concept of "race" now appears to be "scientifically inadequate", notes the newspaper. (HANDLE).
