TousAntiCovid: the day the system caught up with the increase in new cases

At the start of last week, the number of Covid-19 cases exceeded 40,000 per day. It was necessary, urgently, to allow the ge

"We managed to avoid the failure, but we really did not go far", summarizes an actor in the file.

Monday, October 19, for the first time since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, more than 40,000 people who have been tested have found a positive result in the following days.

Each was then supposed to receive a QR code, a sort of square barcode, allowing it, if it wishes, to declare itself positive on the TousAntiCovid tracking application.

Yes, but here it is: the system was designed to generate… 40,000 QR codes per day.

However, the goal is that each positive person may well have the opportunity to identify themselves as such on TousAntiCovid, on which the government is banking more than ever before.

The other users who have crossed it then receive an alert notification.

In an emergency, the blockages had to be lifted to allow the service provider to produce 65,000 QR codes per day.

Friday, the gauge was further increased above 100,000, just to have some margin, while the count of positive cases continues to climb.

"It is now possible to generate 105,000 QR codes per day until the end of May", one indicates to the General Directorate of Health.

Laboratories called to vigilance

This problem solved, remains that some tested positive are surprised - even complain - not to receive their QR code, however well generated.

Contacted, the Ministry of Health recognizes this problem and indicates that it was alerted shortly after the launch of the V1 of StopCovid (the former name of TousAntiCovid), in early June.

In fact, this code is supposed to be sent digitally (email and SMS) and by post.

The concern arises in the event of a typing or typing error in the laboratory when the patient goes there to be tested.

“It remains a human operation.

We had a colleague for whom there was only 75011 in the address box ”, we are told by way of example.

We do not have precise figures to measure the extent of this phoneme, which remains very limited, but is large enough for the authorities to be concerned about.

From the start of the summer, doctors were given the opportunity to go and recover, at the request of one of their positive patients who had not received their QR code, a six-digit code on a secure Internet platform. .

This can also be used to report on TousAntiCovid.

In addition, in a letter sent on October 21 to the laboratories, and of which we obtained a copy, Jérôme Salomon insisted on “particularly insisting on the speed and quality of the data provided” on the secure platform for recording results.

In other words, you have to be even more vigilant when entering data.

A contact form that the patient could fill out himself before bringing it to the laboratory should also be more proposed.

Everything is therefore implemented so that everyone has a personal code.

It would be a shame if goodwill could not be positive on TousAntiCovid, which is experiencing renewed interest.

The application passed the 4 million downloads mark on Sunday evening, including 1.3 in the last three days alone.
