A book in verse form is usually considered difficult to convey - but at the moment one is even number 2 on the SPIEGEL bestseller list: In mid-October, the book "Annette, ein Heldinnenepos" won the German Book Prize, hence the sudden hype.
Anne Weber tells, formally in verse, cleverly and with a lot of humor about a French Resistance fighter and supporter of the Algerian liberation movement FLN, about a woman whose life bears the great political conflicts of the 20th century.
The book is based on a real biography, that of Anne Beaumanoir, now 97 years old.
It seems that their life fits much more than any other.
So far, however, the real Beaumanoir has not found its way into the first row of those contemporary witnesses who shape the discourse on the memory of the past century: The archive of the great French daily newspaper "Le Monde", for example, makes all articles in the paper since 1944 accessible searches for Beaumanoir there, but finds only two entries - one is from this year and is again about the author Weber when the French version of the book award title appeared in the spring.
