For the second time after 2016, a German lottery player hit the maximum euro jackpot. The record is now set. Now the wait begins: where and when does the winner report?
Helsinki / Münster (dpa) - A tipster from Germany won the Eurojackpot with 90 million euros. With the right numbers, a player - or a syndicate - from North Rhine-Westphalia has thus set the previous German record win of 2016, as Westlotto announced in Münster.
The numbers 7-16-22-36-44 and the two additional numbers 3 and 4 had been drawn in Helsinki in the evening. "Congratulations to the new multi-millionaire," said Andreas Kötter, Managing Director of Westlotto, according to the announcement. In addition to the jackpot, according to Westlotto, ten more million euros will go to Germany.
In October 2016, a player in the Black Forest had already cleared the 90 million euros. The highest lottery win to date in North Rhine-Westphalia went to the Rhineland at EUR 76.8 million in 2016.
Since the start of the Euro Jackpot in 2012, the European lottery with 18 participating countries has reached the legally stipulated upper limit of 90 million euros. Once the limit is reached, every additional euro earned goes to the next prize categories and forms another jackpot there. The pot had not been cracked seven times in a row in the past few weeks.
The Euro Jackpot is a combination of 5 out of 50 and 2 out of 10. If there are several successful players, the winning amount is divided. The chance of winning the Euro Jackpot is 1 in 95 million. The chances of the classic lottery on Wednesday and Saturday ("6 out of 49") are significantly lower. The jackpot chance here is only 1 in 140 million.
