This Sunday, February 16 in the evening, the deputy and doctor Olivier Véran was appointed by Emmanuel Macron to replace Agnès Buzyn as Minister of Solidarity and Health, announced the Élysée Palace. Olivier Véran was appointed just after the resignation of Agnès Buzyn, who decided to leave the government to become the LREM candidate for mayor of Paris, replacing Benjamin Griveaux.

Olivier Véran, who until now continued to consult in neurology at the Grenoble-La Tronche University Hospital, should this time hang up the white coat to devote himself 100% to his new functions. Especially since he inherits a vast ministry, covering medical matters and social protection. Two different worlds, but one he knows well. General rapporteur of the Social Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, he closely followed the financing of Social Security. He is a fierce supporter of the defund of homeopathy. He was also appointed rapporteur for the organic pension bill.
His government colleagues know him well. "He is bubbling, full of energy and passionate," sums up one of them. Before becoming one of the figures of the Republic group on the march at the Palais Bourbon, Olivier Véran started his classes at the Socialist Party. Substitute for Geneviève Fioraso, he entered the National Assembly as a PS deputy in 2012, when she was appointed Minister of Research for François Hollande. He sat there for three years, before becoming regional councilor for Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. He also held several union positions during his career. It is therefore a more committed and experienced profile in politics than that of Agnès Buzyn. As soon as he arrives, Olivier Véran will have to lead the fight against the coronavirus epidemic and the debate on pensions.
