Egyptian sources involved in intelligence mediation talks revealed Thursday (Thursday) in a talk with Qatari newspaper al-Arabi al-Jadeid that the Hamas delegation visiting Cairo met with those responsible for the Palestinian portfolio. At a long meeting, the possibility of a direct meeting between the Hamas leadership and senior security officials in Israel was discussed.
According to sources, the Egyptian side made an Israeli request to allow such a meeting in Egypt in any representation other than the Hamas head, to discuss a number of issues related to the calm understandings. The sources noted that the Hamas delegation emphasized its refusal to send a representative to the meetings, and its adherence to an indirect, Egypt-Qatar-mediated call mechanism.
At the same time, it was made clear that Hamas was discussing with the Egyptian side the holding of a conference in Cairo for all Palestinian factions in order to unify the ranks and achieve internal reconciliation. The sources found that the Egyptian side was trying to find out about the date of the return of Ismail Haniyeh's political bureau to the Gaza Strip and the end of his visit, as well as the anticipation of his subsequent trips. Remember, in recent days Haniyeh met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Russia. The Egyptians also tried to find out if Haniyeh was indeed planning to settle in Qatar or Turkey.
The sources said the Hamas delegation denied reports of failure to return to Gaza, claiming it would return there soon. The sources revealed that Egypt-Hamas agreement had ceased to cease visits by senior terrorist organizations in Iran at the present time. The Hamas delegation announced to the Egyptian side that internal guidelines were issued not to travel to Iran in the near future until the Corona crisis ended.
