As a last resort, the media and the old elites mobilize the judiciary to torpedo the unity government • Hope the Supreme Court doesn't fall into the trap • Opinion

Every year, on Memorial Day, I used to visit the graves of Meir Stein, who was killed in my tank during the Yom Kippur War, Israel Eagleberg, who was with me on the tank crew in the Armored Officers course, and of the paratrooper Isaiah Fruitman, who was killed in the reprisal in Husan. 

Isaiah, the brother of my good friend, whose parents I met for the first time was bereavement and grief. This year, in the cliff of times, I will not go to the Kiryat Shaul cemetery. In a meeting with the bereaved family, each year I absorbed the strengths of the soul, the strength of the spirit and the strength of faith in the return of Zion, the salvation of Israel and the building of the Promised Land. 

These days, Israeli citizens are in a mirage. An invisible virus disrupts life and exposes humanity to unmet challenges in health, livelihood, isolation and closure. Experts modestly admit that they do not know the guests of the virus and hope that soon they will find a vaccine that will return to normal life.

In recent weeks, I have again discovered the resilience of Israeli society, its wisdom and stubborn choice in life. No virus can stop the desire for power, vitality, and a sense of mutual guarantee in Israeli society. This is not the first time that Israelis have faced difficult and complex challenges - and victors. Out of the wars, terrorist attacks and economic hardships, we emerged reinforced, so will this time dealing with the Corona. Every sensible person understands the complexity of making existential decisions amid ongoing uncertainty.

The Director General of the Ministry of Health is impressive at intelligence briefings, and the Finance Director is convinced of his concern for the economy. Above all are Netanyahu and the government, who have to decide between recommendations, sometimes contradictory ones, given out of responsibility. Every decision that the government makes is immediately criticized by media outlets who fail to recover from their loss in three election campaigns. A unity government led by Netanyahu and then Gantz is a nightmare for them. Their tremendous investment in the hope of an exchange of power has collapsed.

The well-known philosopher Schopenhauer wrote that there is no revenge like the revenge of a journalist who was wrong. he was right. On such days, one can expect that the media will also take part in the national effort. Encourage the spirit of the people, stand behind the leadership's decisions, and even if there is criticism - it will not make it the main message on television channels. The media in England surmounted a 99-year-old Captain Tom Moore, who raised £ 20m from the public to fight the Corona through a walk around his home garden, making him a national hero.

Israeli media, on the other hand, prefer to bring in experts on their own who said they would be surprised if the number of those who died from Corona exceed ten, or those who explain that the Corona is less risky from influenza and excessive caution. The channels of depression are constantly operating, including those who claimed that the Corona was a political invention for Netanyahu. It is the fortune of Israeli citizens that they prove time and again that television channels do not affect most. 

Now, as a last resort, the old media and elites are mobilizing the justice system to torpedo a unity government. I hope the Supreme Court does not fall into the trap. The High Court should not intervene if there is no black flag, shouting to the sky, for the agreement and legislation that followed. You will certainly lead to a fourth election campaign, while all the resources for the Corona campaign must be mobilized.
