The Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources, Eng. Ali Ghanem, confirmed that the government is still pursuing a policy to support oil derivatives and direct support to those who deserve it via a smart card.

Ghanem indicated in an interview with the Syrian news channel this evening that according to the decision announced by the ministry today to stop supplying private cars with an engine capacity of 2000 cc and above with a subsidized gasoline slide starting tomorrow, Sunday, May 10, the percentage of cars that remained Within the subsidy, it constituted 91 percent, while the subsidy was only partially lifted from 9 percent.

Ghanem pointed out that there will be a meeting of the ministries concerned, as it will be announced directly through the media about the employment of the revenues resulting from the new decision in an optimal way through service and development projects that directly or indirectly reflect on the living conditions of citizens.

Ghanem explained that the oil derivatives and crude oil supplied to Syria do not only come at its international prices, but rather with added values on transport fares and financial transfers as a result of the illegal unilateral economic coercive measures imposed by the West in addition to the significant exchange rate repercussions.

The Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources said that the new decision, which came upon the recommendation of the Economic Committee, targets private cars, including "vanes" that carry a special plate and operate as transport cars, and does not target cars licensed for public transport, and therefore there should not be a reflection on the increase in transport fares.

Ghanem indicated that the decision does not include the 59,500 government cars because they follow their own procedures, including reducing the allocations of government vehicles, pointing out that the percentage of their consumption of gasoline after the decision of the reduction was only 3 percent.
