China reiterated its firm opposition to US arms sales to Taiwan, calling on Washington to adhere to the one-China principle.
"China is firmly opposed to US arms sales to the Taiwan region of China ... and firmly opposes the existence of military ties or any form of official communication between the United States and the Taiwan region," Xinhua News Agency quoted Ma Xiaoguang, spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, as saying.
The Chinese official’s comments came in response to a question about the approval of the US State Department on a plan to sell weapons worth 180 million US dollars to Taiwan.
