As soon as he rested his feet on the wet grass in the patio of the house, the young man felt the fury of the dogs and could do nothing to prevent the attack. The two animals started an unequal fight that ended with the death of Dilan Escudero (19), who had entered the property of 85 and 27, in the Altos de San Lorenzo neighborhood, in La Plata, with intent to rob. The most violent was a pit bull and the Police had to sacrifice him to help the intruder.

The bloody episode occurred on Saturday at nap time, in an uninhabited, half-finished house. The victim's desperate screams alarmed the neighbors. One of them tried to calm the animals from the sidewalk and even threw a bucket of water at them. It was an unsuccessful attempt. Then they called 911 and within 15 minutes the Police had to break a door to access the property.

When the officers arrived, the pit bull still had his "jaw locked" on Escudero's thigh . Although they fired intimidation shots into the air, they failed to get the dog to release its prey. It was then that one of the officers shot the pet's head. The other was a mongrel dog, medium in size. They also had to shoot him to control him, although he did not die.

As explained by veterinary experts, pit bulls are hunting dogs that "tend to keep their prey bitten until it falls." The force exerted by the jaws can reach up to 105 kilograms.

Vanished and severely injured in both legs, Escudero was taken by an SAME ambulance to the San Martín hospital, but died on guard duty.

According to the investigation carried out by the prosecutor María Eugenia Di Lorenzo, from UFI No. 17 in La Plata, Dilan Escudero lived seven blocks from the place, in an area known as Puente de Hierro. From police sources it emerged that he had a history of robbery and assault. She would have tried to carry out a crime with the modality of "scruche", that is, entering a property while the owners are not there.

To access the construction, he would have jumped one of the two-meter-high cuts that line part of the property and, being inside, he was surprised by the pair of animals. When the patrol arrived at the scene, Dilan was half-naked and bloody, according to the police report that Clarín agreed to .

The house where Escudero entered is not a permanent home of its owners. "It is almost always empty. And the owners come once or twice a week to tend to the animals," neighbors said, giving their testimony to investigators.

In the Di Lorenzo prosecutor's office they indicated that "in principle, there are no elements to involve the owners of the farm due to the death of the alleged thief; the dogs were inside the property and behind a two-meter wall, with no possibility of jumping , escape, or surprise the unwary, "they explained in court.

For now, the case is investigating an act of "attempted robbery and investigation of causes of death." Another fact that points in that direction: the prosecutor found that "the young man had no relationship with the house. There is no logical reason for him to have been there."

Altos de San Lorenzo is a neighborhood of low houses and that combines paved streets with other dirt roads. It is 25 blocks from the center of the Buenos Aires capital. "Puente de Hierro" is a precarious settlement located south of the urban area and Escudero's parents have a modest block at 23 and 90, according to the Police.
