The Senate dominated by the right opposition voted unanimously on Tuesday the creation of a commission of inquiry on the management of the health crisis of the coronavirus requested by its president Gérard Larcher (LR). A new commission after that launched by the National Assembly.
Established for six months, the committee will have a format expanded to 36 members and will begin its hearings in July, while those of the National Assembly are in progress.
During its public session on Tuesday, the Senate unanimously adopted the motion for a resolution to create a commission of inquiry to assess public policies in the face of major pandemics in the light of the Covid health crisis. 19 and its management, presented by Gérard Larcher, President of the Senate.
The health crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic "showed that our country was not sufficiently prepared and that the questioning over the years of anticipation policies had left us destitute," said Gérard Larcher in a press release, where he also considers "essential to understand the causes of this lack of preparation in order to draw lessons for the future".
Managing the crisis under the Senate's scrutiny
This motion for a resolution to create a commission of inquiry was tabled on June 16, 2020. In detail, its missions are numerous, since it involves assessing France's state of readiness on the eve of the triggering of the epidemic, the management of the health crisis by political and administrative officials since its outbreak in January 2020 and the choices made by France, "in the light of the lessons that we can draw from the experiences of European and Asian countries" .
