Ricin poison package addressed to Trump was intercepted

A package that contained ricin poison and was addressed to President Donald Trump was intercepted by authorities earlier this week, according to two law enforcement officials.

Two tests were performed to confirm the presence of ricin.

All mail from the White House is classified and analyzed in an offsite facility prior to reaching the White House.

The FBI and the Secret Service are investigating the matter.

Ricin is a highly toxic compound extracted from castor beans that has been used in terrorist acts.

Can be used in powder, granule, mist or acid form.

If ingested it causes nausea, vomiting, and internal bleeding of the stomach and intestines, followed by liver, spleen, and kidney failure, and death from collapse of the circulatory system.

CNN has reached out to the White House and the Secret Service for comment.
