After the FDC’s application to hold a parade on Hong Kong Island failed to appeal on November, it was rejected by the Public Assembly and Procession Appeals Committee on Monday (28th).
The Security Bureau stated that anyone who made publicity or announcements for an unauthorized demonstration may break the law.
After the protests of the FDC in the past, some citizens still took to the streets to demonstrate.
The fact that no notice of no objection was received during the 11th parade does not mean that there will be no street demonstrations that day.
However, after the society experienced the unexpected epidemic and Beijing's forced "Port National Security Law", there should have been a certain amount of space and time to reflect on the means to strive for social change.
It is true that many Hong Kong people are dissatisfied with the government.
It can even be said that most people in society are dissatisfied with the status quo and believe that Hong Kong urgently needs to change.
But the means to promote change are understood differently.
A small number of more radical people think that society should be disrupted entirely, street riots should be used to prevent the operation of society, and parliament should be paralyzed by members.
However, the violent demonstrations on the streets obviously did not help positively. The depression of all industries under the epidemic also illustrates the importance of economic stability to the disadvantaged grassroots.
In the poll for members of the democratic legislature announced on Tuesday (29th), nearly half of the interviewees also supported the retention of parliamentarians, reflecting that even if society has the political correctness of "must fight", many citizens think that the legislative approach of parliament is desirable .
Promote social change cannot rely solely on passion
In fact, in the parliament, the government can be pressured, including solving the problem of property prices and strengthening social security, so that people can live and work in peace.
Even on political reform issues, it can rely on the seats to deal with the government and strive for a plan that is more acceptable to all parties.
Only resorting to violent demonstrations will not only bring society into chaos and predicament again, but demonstrators will also have to face criminal consequences and lose years of time at any time.
And after the excitement is over, the thing to promote is likely to be imperceptible.
On the other hand, the Government must also understand that it cannot rely solely on high-handed hands to get rid of governance.
Since last year, the voices of the demonstrators have been deafening. Senior officials headed by the Chief Executive have the responsibility to improve governance. In particular, they must take concrete actions to repair political tears and regain the recognition of the public.
At the same time, the citizens' freedom of speech and assembly must be protected so that they can express their demands legally.
Peaceful demonstrations will not only not disrupt social order, but can also promote social progress by reflecting the demands of the people.
