Hundreds of medics are expected to enlist in the coming weeks in the reserve in order to increase the manpower in the HMOs across the country, with the understanding that the HMOs will not be able to withstand the load of hundreds of thousands of vaccinated in a short time.

The goal of the Israeli government is to vaccinate millions of civilians throughout the country within a few months, which requires a particularly large workforce, and therefore the army is also taking part in the mission.

Prior to the vaccination operations, the ACA decided to recruit reservists who had served as medics or paramedics in the IDF, women and men alike, and these would provide the vaccines to civilians.

The large recruitment of reservists, including those who were recently discharged from the IDF until the age of 27, began yesterday (Sunday) and the IDF reports an impressive response to the call.

In order to prove a "seriousness tax", the medics must commit to at least three months of service in the reserve, with the IDF estimating that the duration of the service will be even longer.

"This is a very exciting mission," says Major (Res.) Gal Saar, the corona projector of the Personnel and Reserve Planning Branch, who is in charge of the mission.

"We allow young guys to take part in a national event, and help eradicate the corona."

Saar says that on the first day, about 200 inquiries were received.

"We see the reactions of the soldiers - they want to take part in the campaign that is storing the country."

The recruitment criteria are simple.

Reservists must be trained as military medics, motivated and have a high sense of service.

Prior to their enlistment, on January 1, 2021, they will undergo screening to see if they are indeed suitable to serve the citizens who come to be vaccinated.

The goal, says Saar, is to recruit about 700 medics from all over the country, and these will be placed in the health funds and we will treat the general public.

About 50 percent of the reservists will be in the center of the country, 25 percent in the south and 25 percent in the north.

Towards the beginning of their service they will also vaccinate themselves against the virus.

Saar emphasizes that along with the fact that this is a national task, in his eyes it also allows employment for young people who are currently stuck without the ability to work and without the possibility of receiving unemployment benefits.

Saar himself has been in the IDF since last March, as an air steward at El Al. "I understand the meaning of being without a job, and I am happy to allow these guys to perform a particularly important task and also help them with employment."
