Many people want to help the earthquake victims in Croatia.

Geretsrieder brothers Kristijan and Pavle Ramcic organized support.

Here they describe their impressions.

Geretsried / Sisak -

The Geretsried brothers Kristijan (25) and Pavle Ramcic (24) organized aid transports after the adoring earthquake last Tuesday in Croatia to help the people in their homeland a little (we reported).

On the back of the Kaufland, the two gathered together with many volunteers

Donations in a truck - clothes, blankets, toiletries and long-life food.

“I couldn't believe how many quarters we got help from,” says Pavle Ramcic.

The truck was fully loaded within 24 hours and was able to make its way to Sisak, some 600 kilometers away, which the earthquake completely destroyed in large parts.

At the weekend, the helpers returned home from Croatia - tired and with impressions that they will never forget.

The trip to the crisis area went without any major difficulties.

"We were also let through at customs immediately," reports Pavle Ramcic.

In Zagreb, about 45 kilometers from their actual destination, the truck from Geretsried was even provided with a police escort for the last part of the way.

The arrival in Sisak was shocking.

The 6.4 magnitude quake wreaked havoc in the small towns of Petrinja, Glina and Sisak as well as in the surrounding area.

Whole rows of houses have been destroyed, rubble is everywhere.

Buildings are cordoned off and may no longer be entered.

Many residents have lost all their belongings.

“People were sitting in front of their houses, or more precisely, in front of what was left of them,” the 24-year-old describes the situation.

Some have built tents out of tarpaulin and sleep on old mattresses on the floor.

Others spend the night in the car or in the open field for fear of being buried in their homes in another quake.

The fear is not unfounded: the earth only shook again on Monday.

At 7.49 a.m. the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) registered a tremor with a magnitude of 4.5, an hour and a half later there was an aftershock with a magnitude of 3.5.

Ramcic is impressed by the way his compatriots are handling the situation.

"Although they were sad and scared, they were still full of hope - and grateful for every donation." At the church in Sisak, the packages they had brought were unloaded and distributed.

“What we have experienced cannot be described and certainly not forgotten,” says Ramcic.

So far, the Croatian has been able to send four trucks to his home country.

"And I will continue as soon as I can," he announced.

Upon their return once only one was for the exhausted workers but the announcement: "sleeping."
