Eitting / Munich

- The Rewe South Region is supporting the earthquake victims in Croatia with a truck full of groceries and hygiene items worth 20,000 euros.

On Saturday morning, the relief supplies were loaded into the dry goods store in Eitting, and the drivers arrived in Sisak in the evening and were able to hand over the relief supplies to the aid organizations.

It is an "affair of the heart" for the self-employed Rewe businessman Ivan Jerkovic from Munich to alleviate the plight of the earthquake victims in Croatia.

"I have my roots in Croatia, so it was important for me to act quickly and help the people in Sisak and Petrinja," said Jerkovic on Saturday.

For an initial aid delivery, he had called on friends, acquaintances and customers of his Rewe store on Feldmochinger Strasse in Munich to donate, and a few days ago he had already sent a truck with donated blankets, radiators and food to the affected region.

Now the Rewe South Region has also joined the relief effort.

“Many employees of Croatian origin work in our markets and logistics warehouses.

We are therefore very happy to provide the products that are most urgently needed, ”explained Volker Hornsteiner, CEO of Rewe Süd.

The food and hygiene items were put together in the Rewe warehouse in Eitting according to the recommendations of the Croatian-Christian community in Munich.

Employees with Croatian roots helped actively, including the works councilor / dispatcher CM Purchasing Meri Schmid, who helped initiate the fundraising campaign.

"We are grateful that the Rewe aid campaign was possible so quickly and unbureaucratically, and also for the voluntary transport by the freight forwarder Transport GmbH Dominkovic from Garching," said the initiators.

Drinks such as mineral water and apple juice, food such as flour, milk, rice, oat flakes, sugar, pasta, canned tomatoes, sunflower oil, stews, apples and pretzel sticks as well as hygiene items such as toilet paper and liquid soap were loaded onto a truck from the Dominkovic transport company on pallets.

The two truckers Anto Breskic and Mato Bozanovic brought the relief cargo to Sisak, where it was handed over to the aid organizations.
