At the 30-kilometer race as part of the Nordic Junior World Championship in Oberwiesenthal, the 18-year-old from Peiting took 36th place among 66 finishers. Heiland completed the demanding route with a total of 1140 vertical meters in 1: 19: 48.9 hours. The Peitinger was traveling at an average speed of 22.6 km / h.
Right at the start, Heiland, who is participating in a junior world championship for the first time, suffered a setback. After a few hundred meters, he was several seconds behind the field. It was not possible to determine whether a fall or a broken stick in the start crowds was the reason. After three kilometers, however, he had reinstalled himself in the field with 74 participants. After ten kilometers, Heiland (25: 30.9 minutes) was in 40th place and ran with seven other athletes. He passed the 15-kilometer mark after 38:47 minutes in 37th place. At this point in time, the gap to the top group was 2:35 minutes.
As a result, Heiland mostly ran with Zanden McMullen (USA) and Jakub Svejda (Czech Republic). Both distanced him by a few seconds over the last 1.2 kilometers. Two days before the 30-kilometer race, Heiland convinced with 14th place over the 10 kilometers (classic technique). The Norwegian Iver Tildheim Andersen (1: 13: 39.0) won gold in yesterday's "long rims" ahead of the German Friedrich Moch (+9.4 seconds back).
