At the 30-kilometer race as part of the Nordic Junior World Championship in Oberwiesenthal, the 18-year-old from Peiting took 36th place among 66 finishers. Heiland completed the demanding route with a total of 1140 vertical meters in 1: 19: 48.9 hours. The Peitinger was traveling at an average speed of 22.6 km / h.

Right at the start, Heiland, who is participating in a junior world championship for the first time, suffered a setback. After a few hundred meters, he was several seconds behind the field. It was not possible to determine whether a fall or a broken stick in the start crowds was the reason. After three kilometers, however, he had reinstalled himself in the field with 74 participants.

Savior must let his opponents go

After ten kilometers, Heiland (25: 30.9 minutes) was in 40th place and ran with seven other athletes. He passed the 15-kilometer mark after 38:47 minutes in 37th place. At this point in time, the gap to the top group was 2:35 minutes. As a result, Heiland mostly ran with Zanden McMullen (USA) and Jakub Svejda (Czech Republic). Both distanced him by a few seconds over the last 1.2 kilometers. Two days before the 30-kilometer race, Heiland convinced with 14th place over the 10 kilometers (classic technique).

The Norwegian Iver Tildheim Andersen (1: 13: 39.0) won gold in the "long edge" ahead of the German Friedrich Moch (+9.4 seconds back). The Allgäuer had started an attack at kilometer 23, was now around twelve seconds ahead. The Norwegian Helene Marie Fossesholm (35: 55.6) delivered a gala performance to the young women over the 15 kilometers. The 18-year-old won by 1:09 minutes. The best German was Amelie Hofmann (37:46) in 15th place.

A great talent for years

Korbinian Heiland has stood out for years with strong results. For example, at the 2017 German Championship, he won bronze, in 2015/2016 he received numerous top placements and he already attracted attention at the DSV school cup in the 2014/2015 season.
