"Israel Today" continues the ranking project that will accompany us in the coming weeks, and through it we will summarize and analyze Israeli basketball in the 2000s. In Part B we rank the five biggest flops in the last 20 years - the ones that came with high expectations and were greatly disappointed.

1. Sony Wiems (Maccabi Tel Aviv)

In numbers: Participated in 19 Euroleague games and averaged 11.6 points and 3.1 losses per game. In the Israeli league, he played 11 times and averaged 7.7 points (22.9 percent for 2.4, 3 losses and a 7.6 index per game).

In short: Wiems, who excelled in CSKA Moscow and Zalgiris Kaunas, and also played 183 games in the NBA, arrived at Maccabi Tel Aviv as a crown jewel of the constellation built by Yad Eliyahu in the 2016/17 season. He was also the sergeant. The big one to the big crash after quarreling with coach Erez Edelstein, did not get along with most of his teammates, and even refused to be tested in a drug test that led to his release from the team. Since then the Yellows have been afraid to bring in players who are considered stars. The truth? You can understand them.

2. Vitor Fabrani (Maccabi Tel Aviv)

In numbers: Partner in only two Euroleague games, in which he recorded 14 minutes, 7 points and 4 offenses. 0 games in the Israeli league.

In short: the Fabrani deal is considered one of the most failed in the history of Maccabi Tel Aviv and one of the symbols of the most difficult years in the club's history - no less. For two years without an exit clause, it soon became clear that Fabrani could not withstand the load at the high levels, he only participated in two official games, and Maccabi Tel Aviv left the contract with him.

3. Jeremy Tyler (Maccabi Haifa)

In numbers: Partner in only 10 games and averages 2.1 points, 1.8 fouls and a 1.1 per game index.

In short: Tyler came to Israel in 2009 when he was only 18 and after being named the best chin in high school in the US. According to some experts, he was a No. 1 candidate in the NBA Draft in those years. Ljubljana wanted him, but the player The young man chose to come to Israel and turned out to be a big bluff. B.I.I., and in recent years he has played in the Philippines and Puerto Rico.

4. Mike Zirbes (Maccabi Tel Aviv)

In numbers: Appeared in 15 Euroleague games, in which he averaged 15 minutes, 8.1 points and 3 rebounds per game. 9 league games, 8.3 points, 2 losses and an average of 8.9 per game.

In short: another one of the big falls for Maccabi Tel Aviv in the 2016/17 season. The huge German chin came with big money and even higher expectations, after positioning himself as one of the best domestic players on the continent thanks to great ability in the Red Star Belgrade and the German league In practice he had a hard time adapting, did not manage in the locker room (reportedly even cried several times) and left in

the middle of the season.Since then he has not returned to the European top, and recently signed with Shabab Al-Ahly from Dubai. Well, maybe we can visit him soon.

In short: "Anthony Parker's replacement", the headlines cried after the signing of someone who played 230 games in the NBA, scored almost 10 points on average for Zeljko Oberdovic at Panathinaikos and won titles in various leagues in Europe. In retrospect, it turned out to be one of the Yellows' big mistakes, and was released shortly after, after reports flowed in that he had used banned substances.
