The accident happened in the middle of the final sprint for victory, about fifteen minutes after the arrival of Charlie Dalin, first to reach Les Sables d'Olonnes but without being assured of winning in the standings.
One of the contenders for first place, the German Boris Herrmann (Seaexplorer-Yacht Club de Monaco), hit a fishing boat while sailing in third position 160 km from the finish.
The German skipper, who was claiming victory thanks to a six-hour hourly compensation, collided with a fishing boat at around 8:50 p.m.
The shock caused damage to the starboard foil (appendage that allows you to fly) "but the sailor is fine", said the organizers.
"He has secured the boat and is now heading towards the finish line at low speed," adds the race site.
The incident risks costing him his claim to victory.
