The German sailor Boris Herrmann collided with a fishing boat shortly before reaching the destination of the Vendée Globe.
The organizers announced this on their website.
Accordingly, the third placed about 90 nautical miles from the finish line in Les Sables d'Olonne by boat.
Herrmann was unharmed.
The hamburger reported to the organizer about damage to his starboard foil and other parts of his yacht.
Accordingly, he is driving towards the finish line at reduced speed.
It is not yet clear to what extent the incident will affect his time.
Due to a time credit of six hours, he was considered a contender until the collision.
