With the debut of the new generation scheduled for 2022, the Peugeot 308 range will include an unprecedented high-performance plug-in hybrid version, intended to rival the Volkswagen Golf 8 R and intended to widen the rampant lion offensive in niches of numerically limited but certainly profitable market. The 308 PHEV, whose name is not yet known but which could be called GTE, will be built on an updated version of the EMP2 platform which is currently the basis of more than a dozen models of the PSA group and which had made its debut with the first 308 generation. The plug-in hybrid propulsion will be obtained by coupling a 1.6-liter petrol engine with an additional electric unit on the rear axle - a scheme already used on the 3008 PHEV - to provide all-wheel drive and ensure the motor skills required for a model that should have around 300 hp. As the Autocar magazine anticipates, this unpublished 'pushed' version could be marketed under the new parallel brand Peugeot Sport Engineered (PSE), whose badge will already appear this fall on a performance version of the 508.
