George Floyd Effect: The social network Twitter announced last Thursday that it is discontinuing the use of racially related terms in its code language.

"Really Changing Words" tweeted Michael Montano, who heads the company's programmers department, adding that "we are committed to adopting a contained language in our code, in its products, in our documentation and in our conduct."

Words like "master", "slave" refer to parts of the encoding processes that control another section, while "black list" describes a list of things that are automatically blocked for example IP addresses. But following the change, the company announced that "Lord" and "slave" would become "leader" and "follower" and the reference to "list" would henceforth be a "list of denials".

The discussion about the change the company's engineers are using has intensified in recent weeks following the killing of George Floyd by a police officer in Minneapolis, and the pressure exerted by the "Black Lives Matter" group on corporations and large corporations to change their actions regarding discrimination and treatment of African American workers.

According to reports in the United States, J.P. Morgan intends to follow Twitter.
