A 63-year-old woman died drowned on Saturday in Côte-d'Or while bathing in Panthier Lake, a small stretch of artificial water located in the southeast of the department, according to departmental firefighters.
The drama took place shortly before 4 p.m., when the sixty-something woman was swimming alone ten meters from a busy beach in the town of Vandenesse-en-Auxois, where part of the lake stretches.
An open investigation
According to witnesses, the victim suddenly sank and then disappeared. Her body was found and taken out of the water an hour later with the assistance of a team of firefighters who failed to revive her.
According to Le Bien Public, about fifteen firefighters, divers and a Samu helicopter were mobilized on the spot. The swimmer is said to be a resident of the commune. An investigation was opened to determine the circumstances of the drowning.
