A wolf was slaughtered in early July in the Hautes-Alpes by lieutenants of dog wholesalers as part of the national action plan on animals and breeding activities.

This "reinforced defense shot", which led to the "taking of a specimen" on July 5 at the Col du Lautaret, in the commune of Monêtier-les-Bains, had been demanded two days earlier by breeders. They "had repeatedly seen wolves near their herd, including several in hunting action repelled by the patous", according to the same source. The remains of the animal were returned to the agents of the French Office for Biodiversity, as required by the regulations.

The shooting, which was filmed and broadcast, aroused the anger of animal advocates. "It drives me crazy," said young mountain guide Corentin Esmieu in this video. "He passed there at that place, he did nothing, he did not attack and he got shot like that", says the man who explains following this pack of wolves in the Briançonnais for four years . This rant went viral thanks to the intermediary of the journalist committed to the environment and biodiversity Hugo Clément.

The lieutenants of eyewear have complained after being subjected to "various insults and death threats," said the prefecture in its press release. "Although the emotion is legitimate, it is important to keep calm and this should not lead conservationists to break the law," said Martine Clavel, prefect of Hautes-Alpes.
