In the midst of the Covid-19 epidemic, the announced arrival of "thousands of revelers" sounded all the alarms. Seven prefectures of the Center and the West, alerted of the possibility of a rave party on their lands, have taken measures to prevent the holding of the event, according to several arrested.
"In the current health context", the Covid-19 crisis, the prefectures of the departments of Center-Val de Loire (Cher, Eure-et-Loir, Indre, Indre-et-Loire, Loir-et-Cher, Loiret) and Vienne, in New Aquitaine, have taken "in coordination" this week orders "to oppose the illegal installation" of a possible teknival, from Saturday and until Tuesday or Wednesday, say in particular the prefects of Cher and Indre-et-Loire.
Six deaths in Indre-et-Loire in 2017
According to the prefecture of Vienne, the authorities suspect that a giant rave "could bring together several thousand participants" was held on these dates. In a first decree, it thus provides for the “temporary prohibition” of this type of musical and festive gathering by invoking security difficulties, in the height of summer, but also the Covid-19 crisis “still in progress”, while groupings of more than 5000 people "are prohibited until August 31".
Such a gathering "does not allow respect for barrier gestures […] and makes the creation of a cluster of contamination likely," she alarmed. The prefectures have combined this measure with another decree which prohibits the circulation of heavy goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes transporting equipment such as sound systems, sound systems and amplifiers.
The holding of this possible rally has revived the fears of certain prefectures such as in Indre-et-Loire where a teknival had ended in 2017 by six deaths, in the town of Pernay, recalled the prefect Corinne Orzechowski.
