A 3-year-old child died on Saturday in Piennes, hit by her uncle's car, who would not have seen her when backing up, the Briey (Meurthe-et-Moselle) prosecutor's office said on Sunday.
The victim's 31-year-old uncle was behind the wheel of the vehicle and did not see that his niece was present while he was making a maneuver in reverse, said the prosecution, confirming information from the newspaper L 'Is Republican.
Arrived on the spot, the firefighters and the Smur failed to revive the little girl, according to the newspaper. An investigation was entrusted to the gendarmerie, the accidental track is for the moment privileged.
Psychological cell for firefighters
According to the local daily, psychological support was offered to the family in shock. But the latter has for the moment rejected the proposal. The victim's family is of Portuguese origin and has little command of French.
