A plane from Dubai broke on landing at Calicut (or Kozhikode) airport in southern India on Friday, according to several Indian media.
At around 7 p.m. (local time, 3.30 p.m. in Paris), the aircraft of the Air India Express company, which was carrying at least 185 people, cut in two when exiting the runway. Help was dispatched to the site. The precise number of victims is currently unknown. An MP from Kerala state said at least one person, the pilot, was killed, while media reported dozens of people hospitalized.
The accident occurred as heavy rains hit the region at the peak of the monsoon.
In response, Indian Interior Minister Amit Shah expressed his "distress" on Twitter. "I ordered the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to get there as quickly as possible and bring its assistance to relief operations," he said on Twitter.
