A truck driver was killed by a gendarme this Friday afternoon in Montauban (Tarn-et-Garonne) after a road check which degenerated, according to France Bleu Occitanie and La Dépêche du Midi.
The accident happened around 4:30 p.m., south of Montauban. The vehicle was traveling on the city bypass, and had just taken a prohibited direction, which then put the police on alert, according to the prosecution quoted by France Bleu.
The truck driver then stopped at the request of the gendarmes. He tested positive for drugs and alcohol, according to local radio. It was then that he fled on the A20 and was chased as far as Grisolles, south of the city. He "was very determined", ensure the police at La Dépêche, who opened fire against him.
The driver shot dead
The vehicle, which attempted to crash into a gendarme car, subsequently crashed into a baluster on the side of the expressway. The heavyweight then caught fire. The body of the driver, hit by bullet, was found 150 meters from the truck.
“He refused to comply following a road check, he fled, crashed into a gendarmerie vehicle in which was a gendarme. A gendarme used his weapon, the driver was hit and the truck caught fire. The autopsy will determine the causes of his death, ”summed up the prosecution.
Firefighters were deployed to extinguish the blaze. Traffic on the A20, near Montauban, was cut in the south-north direction.

An investigation was opened to clarify the circumstances of the tragedy. At actuToulouse, the Montauban prosecutor's office also specifies that it has entered the General Inspectorate of the National Gendarmerie (IGPN).
