The mass-instead of-class principle

2020-09-22T09:04:54.111Z

Uwe Mollina is head physician in Dresden and one of the most active German scientists. He has worked on nearly 2500 publications. Much of this is pseudoscientific nonsense.

A prolific writer Wollina: The principle of quantity instead of quality

Prof. Dr.

med.

Uwe Wollina is a hardworking man.

At the Dresden City Clinic, an academic teaching hospital, he has been working as chief physician in dermatology for almost 20 years.

But he is not busy with that.

Wollina, born in 1956, gives lectures, is editor-in-chief of two specialist publications and chairs an examination committee of the Saxon State Medical Association.

He also researches - and how: According to the paper situation, he must be considered one of the most prominent scientists in Germany, if not the whole world.

According to the Researchgate database, Wollina's list of publications includes around 2500 titles.

Seven publications in which he was involved appeared in July, 14 in June, 18 in May.

Even Christian Drosten can only dream of such a run.

But anyone who takes the trouble to read publications by the luminary is facing an irritating experience.

Wollina, after all a trainer and examiner, is not really at home in the world of quality journals like "Nature", "Science" or the "British Medical Journal", in which top researchers announce top results.

The clinician, on the other hand, provides an example of how serious science is undermined by people who like to produce junk and nonsense according to the quantity instead of class principle.
