Little Yanis' stepfather appeals his murder conviction
The father-in-law of little Yanis, who died in 2017 during a punishment, appealed against his conviction to 25 years of criminal imprisonment for murder, we learned from one of his lawyers on Wednesday.
"He disputes the intention to kill, he does not agree with the conviction for murder," said Marc Bailly, confirming information from the Voix du Nord.
"We can review the file from scratch, and discuss a number of things again."
Friday, the Assize Court of Pas-de-Calais recognized Julien Masson, 34, guilty of the murder of the son of his partner, on the night of February 5 to 6, 2017 in Aire-sur-la-Lys, and of regular violence against him.

His sentence was accompanied by five years of socio-judicial monitoring with injunction of care.
Long clung to the thesis of an accident, with a death caused by falls of the child, the accused Thursday admitted his "responsibility", but denied any criminal intention, assuring to have caused the death "accidentally".

The tragedy had occurred when he had taken the little boy of five years running to the edge of a nearby canal, in a temperature of five degrees, to punish him for having "wet the bed".
When help arrived, Yanis was lying on a jacket, hypothermic and soaked, his body covered with around thirty bruises, some of them old.
According to the autopsy, he succumbed to a head trauma following a severe impact.
