Trailer "The Crown" Season 4 (Netflix)

Since the release of the fourth season of "The Crown" earlier this month, there have been growing voices in the UK calling on Netflix to attach a message to the series that it is a fictional work.

These voices are now joined by the Kingdom's Minister of Culture, Digital, Media and Sport, Oliver Dawden.

"It's a superficially produced work of fiction," Daoudan told the Daily Mail, "so as with other television works, Netflix should be very clear at first that this is exactly what it is. Without it, I fear a generation of viewers who have not experienced these events may err between fiction and fact."

Daoudan added that he plans to write to Netflix requesting that they add a reference at the beginning of the episodes that will make it clear that the series is fictional.

Most of the claims of the seekers of clarification stem from the way in which the royal family's attitude towards Princess Diana is presented: according to the series, the Princess of Wales was trapped in a marriage to Prince Charles even though he betrayed her from the first moment with Camila Parker.

Attempts by Diana - and also Charles - over the years to break free from the marriage, were met with a wall by the rest of the royal family, led by Queen Elizabeth.

Charles' character is portrayed in the series as one who does not care at all about his wife, and the fear of critics of "The Crown" is that the series will leave ongoing damage to the monarchy in general and the future king in particular.

A sinful description of reality?

Even before Daoudan there were others who expressed similar concern, as stated.

Prominent among them is Count Charles Spencer, Diana's younger brother, who said on ITV's morning show that he believes "The Crown" will benefit greatly if you add at the beginning of the episodes a clarification that the events in the series "are not the truth but are based around some real events".

According to him, viewers may think that the descriptions of the "crown" are engraved in the rock and it is not fair.

Michael Forsyth, a member of the British House of Lords, was even more blunt and said the series was "a step above the 'rude' '.
