Covid-19: 21,228 cases detected and more than 71,000 vaccinations in 24 hours in France

Prime Minister Jean Castex announced an advanced curfew + at 6 p.m. from Saturday everywhere in France for "at least 15 days".


21,228 positive Covid-19 cases were recorded this Thursday, January 14, according to official figures announced by Public Health France, a figure down compared to 23,852 on Wednesday.

During a press conference, the Prime Minister, Jean Castex, ruled out a third confinement of the country, explaining that the figures were not as important as during the second confinement - namely 50,000 cases per day.

A general curfew will nevertheless come into force from 6 p.m. in order to stem the spread of Covid-19.

This Thursday, 283 deaths were recorded in 24 hours, bringing the total to 48,310 victims of the coronavirus in hospital.

Since the start of the epidemic, 2,851,670 people have been infected with Covid-19.

The positivity rate was maintained for the third consecutive day at 6.5%.

Over the last seven days, 9,214 new hospitalizations have been recorded, including 1,354 in intensive care.

In addition, 71,049 people have received the first dose of vaccine in the last 24 hours according to VaccinTracker, bringing the total to 318,216.

The santé.fr site on which people over the age of 75 had to make their appointment to receive the vaccine did not finally open today as planned.

Jean Castex affirmed that vaccination is the "

priority of priorities

" to succeed in getting out of the health crisis.

According to the head of government, more than a million people will be vaccinated by the end of January.
