This Saturday evening, after "at least" four avalanches, according to the prefecture of Savoie, one person died and "several others were buried before being rescued unharmed by the piste services of the resorts concerned".
Snowfall which occurs while "the risk of avalanche has been very high for several days on all the massifs of the department (level 4/5)", adds the authorities in a press release published this Saturday evening by the services of Prefecture.
State services also confirm that "the recent heavy snowfall has made the snowpack very unstable".
A very high risk this Sunday
In fact, in some resorts in the Northern Alps, several tens of centimeters of powder have fallen over the past 72 hours.
“On many slopes, the passage of a single skier or hiker is likely to trigger an avalanche.
Sunday, the avalanche risk will still be very high, level 4/5 in the Savoyard massifs, ”warns the prefecture.
The prefect then wishes to recall the essential safety instructions before any outing.
It is recommended that you get information from mountain professionals, report your route and be equipped (shovel, probe, avalanche victim detector, etc.).
And the press release concludes: “several resorts have set up marked and secure routes for the practice of mountain activities.
