No other federal state was hit harder by the second corona wave than Saxony.
Many people died there within a few weeks, especially the elderly.
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has recorded more than 140 Covid deaths per 100,000 inhabitants since the beginning of the pandemic.
In most of the other federal states, this value is not even half as high.
Even the crematoria are overloaded.
It is possible that significantly more people died from or with Corona in Saxony than was previously known.
Preliminary data from the Federal Statistical Office show that between November 30 and December 27, 2020, there were on average around 96 percent more deaths per week than between 2016 and 2019.
This high excess mortality cannot be explained solely by the reported corona deaths.
Even if you subtract the corona deaths officially registered with the RKI from the reported deaths, an average of 38 percent more people died per week in Saxony than you would have expected.
The Covid-19 Data Analysis Group at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich pointed out this phenomenon at the beginning of January.
