Hundreds of officers will be trained as teachers and recruited as teachers of science, mathematics, physics and English in the periphery, in order to increase the number of recruits in the fields of technology, against the background of a significant drop in demand for these fields.

The program of the "Atidim" project in the Intelligence Division is expected to employ 180 teachers in about nine years, who will work in large areas of the country.

This is a project that operated about 15 years ago, but was discontinued for various reasons, and is now being restarted in cooperation with the Gifted and Talented Division of the Education Corps.

"The IDF needs a lot of technology, so the need for people who understand technology is growing," explains the commander of the Atidim project, Lt. Col. Idan Ben-Zvi.

"Already this year, a program called 'Blades' was opened that deals with the world of gliding and will introduce technological guys to the IDF as early as next year, and the hand is still out."

The new program was opened this year with nine candidates passing BHD 1 and qualified to become teachers, and later the possibility of dozens more will open. After years of training, the officers will be placed as teachers in the periphery, determined by socioeconomic status and not just location in the country. Teachers also in the cities of Lod, Ramla and Netanya, in schools that need help.

"We believe that this program will increase the young people's choice in science and help them succeed. For us, it is a very high-quality and prestigious shell - a kind of patrol aimed at the world of science," says Lt. Col. Ben-Zvi, himself a native of Kiryat Malachi. In the permanent service, each of them will operate in four classes, a total of about 25,000 students.

"We recognize that today there are fewer young people who come to the technological world. In the past, electronics was considered an elite education, but today cyber is more attractive. In addition, we recognize more men who come to the reserve than women, and want to change that pattern. The military aims to bring the periphery to more representation "The plan is a multiplier of power and a national need."
