French police dispersed crowds of demonstrators wearing yellow jackets using tear gas after blocking a road leading to a fertilizer plant in western France in protest at the production of substances that threaten public health.
"The demonstrators gathered in front of the Yara plant in the town of Montoire de Bretagne, chanting slogans of the yellow vests, setting fire to several places on the road leading to the factory and forming a human chain to prevent the passage of trucks," Radio France Blue said.
The Yara plant in Montoire de Bretagne belongs to the Civizo variety, which means that its production is not without the presence of substances that threaten human health.
In recent days, French media have published several reports revealing that serious amounts of phosphorus and other chemicals have been leaked into the waters of the Loire River.
