The obligation to vaccinate in the fight against the corona pandemic means that many nurses are leaving.

The care center in Eichenau also has the problem.

It would therefore be all the more important to be able to offer applicants apartments, for example.

A new building project gives hope, but only in a slimmed-down form.

Eichenau – It is clear that new living space must be created.

Therefore, the station should also be built.

A huge construction project in which, among other things, the Protestant care center, which is located near the tracks, is involved.

It urgently needs prospects for the future for its staff.

Twelve nurses already gone for vaccination

"We also have to fight for skilled workers through housing," warned Dirk Spohd at the most recent meeting of the municipal council.

Spohd was the manager of the facility until 2019 and was involved in the construction in the run-up to the inauguration in 2006.

Since 2020 he has been managing director of the non-profit GmbH "Help in Old Age" of the Inner Mission.

His descriptions are alarming.

Twelve employees would have been lost in Eichenau because of the mandatory vaccination requirement.

Getting direct replacements from the labor market is hopeless.

"That's only possible because we train ourselves."

We are also looking for applicants from abroad.

Spohd named Morocco and Bosnia as examples where attempts are being made to recruit skilled workers.

"They need living space, otherwise we won't get them." Every apartment is more valuable - especially if it's close to the workplace.

Just like the outpatient day and short-term care, which is to be accommodated in an area of the new building on the ground floor.

As the Eichenau municipal council has determined, the care center will now have 22 apartments with an average size of 46 square meters.

That is 18 fewer than the ideas of the Planning Association for the Outer Economic Area (PV) and its representative Kathrin Gessl would have corresponded to.

However, the municipality also has to slim down, since the building is lower.

Six of the original ten apartments remained.

Planner Gessl had submitted a design that would have provided for five floors to the west of the current building on the railway line and four floors further on.

However, this was rejected in the event of a tie.

The planning of the care center will be adapted to that of the park and ride area that is to be built over: four and three floors (as reported).

This was also a result of local residents' protests.

An area is used that is currently used as a compensation area.

The Greens in particular had resisted this.

More parking for care center

The parking lots are also a problem.

According to SPD municipal council member Martin Eberl, there are too few.

He suggested, among other things, that the care center be allocated parking spaces on the planned parking deck to the north of the station.

In the current session, however, Eberl only reached a vote after repeated inquiries.

But he was then able to assert his point of view.
