Brazil's Italo Ferreira won the first gold medal in windsurfing at the Tokyo Olympics.
Ferreira outperformed his Japanese rival Kanoa Igarashi in the final match, which was held on Tsurigasaki Beach, east of Tokyo, amid a strong storm caused by the passage of Typhoon Nepartak, where Ferreira scored 15.14 points, compared to Igarashi 6.60.
Ferreira succeeded in seizing the first gold for Brazil in these games thanks to a wonderful maneuver on the edge of a tidal wave that earned him "7.77" points, while Igarashi failed to reach the seventh point in any of his attempts in the turbulent waters after impressing everyone in the previous rounds.
