The 15th matchday in the Bundesliga ends with an excitement. FC Schalke's 1-0 (0-0) win over Eintracht Frankfurt saw S04 goalkeeper Alexander Nübel after a kick with an open sole against Mijat Gacinovic's chest. The Schalke winner scored Benito Raman (53rd minute), the club is fourth (28 points), Frankfurt is in twelfth place (18).
Nübel's dropout occurred in the 66th minute. The Schalke keeper had come out of his goal on a long pass to intercept the ball. However, he came too late and instead struck Gacinovic in full swing. After this hard collision, it went no further for both players: Nübel saw the red card and is now threatened with a longer ban, Gacinovic bled and had to be replaced. Substitute goalkeeper Markus Schubert came for Amine Harit and went to the Schalke goal.
For Schalke that was not the only loss that evening, coach David Wagner had to react to a Weston McKennie loss in the first half. The 21-year-old went down after an air duel with Bas Dost and fell on his left shoulder (13th). McKennie had to be treated for several minutes and was then brought with a stretcher, the Schalke audience celebrated the American with chants. Barcelona loan Juan Miranda came for him.

An official diagnosis and the length of the failure are still pending. Before the winter break, Schalke will face Wolfsburg on Wednesday (8.30 p.m.) and Freiburg on Saturday (3.30 p.m., both games in the SPIEGEL live ticker), after which the Bundesliga will continue on Matchday 17 on the 18th.

Schalke's Weston McKennie has to be transported from the square
McKennie went into central defense at short notice after Matija Nastasic had dropped out alongside Salif Sané and Benjamin Stambouli. Despite personal worries in the defense, S04 usually had an easy game against harmless Frankfurt. Shortly before the break, Raman could even have scored Schalke 1-0 (42nd), then he scored the lead goal in the second half with a shot from a left-wing position. Even in the majority, Frankfurt was no longer compensated.
