In Wiesbaden, a 23-year-old man was convicted of killing his two-month-old daughter.
The district court found him guilty of manslaughter and sentenced him to nine and a half years in prison.
"There can be no doubt that the accused killed his daughter," said the presiding judge of the jury chamber when the verdict was pronounced.
The main evidence was the autopsy report.
"Worst mistreatment" has documented this.
The judge named broken ribs in the two-month-old girl, a broken spoke in her left arm and fresh bone fragments in her leg as examples.
Narcissistic
The man had suffocated the baby on New Year's Eve 2020/2021.
According to the judge, he had declared during the trial that he had been drunk in bed with the baby after a party.
When the child started screaming, he tried to calm the girl down.
But when this didn't work, he smothered his daughter with his hand over her mouth and nose.
The court assessed the comprehensive statement at the beginning of the trial as a partial confession, which, however, contained some protective claims.
The convict was immature, had shown no considerate treatment of the child before the act and, according to the expert, was narcissistic.
He accepted the death of his daughter with approval.
As the Hessischer Rundfunk reported, citing the court, both parents were overwhelmed with the baby.
The now convicted was portrayed in the process as "self-indulgent and fun-oriented".
In the proceedings before the Wiesbaden district court, the public prosecutor had demanded a prison sentence of eleven years and four months, the defense a probable sentence.
The verdict is not yet legally binding.
