From 2033, Volkswagen only wants to sell electric cars.

The top management around Oliver Blume and Thomas Schäfer are now adjusting the plans.

Suddenly, the Polo may also have a future.

The days of the burner are numbered.

More and more manufacturers are announcing their plans for an exit.

This also applies to Volkswagen: 2033 should be the end of petrol and diesel, two years before the EU ban on new cars.

The plan of the Wolfsburg carmaker, who wants to continue working with the DFB, was correspondingly clear, but the product strategy could now change completely again.

The prestige project Trinity plays a central role in this.

Actually, the high-tech sedan should be on the market as early as 2026, but the software is still lagging behind.

According to the

FAZ

, Trinity should come in 2028 at the earliest.

The result: the planned new plant could be canceled and the electric car built in the main plant.

Volkswagen is adapting its electric strategy.

So the Trinity could be manufactured in the main factory in the future.

Volkswagen: Group management completely turns electric car strategy upside down

While there are still a few question marks at Trinity, Volkswagen is creating facts elsewhere: The MEB (modular electric drive kit) will not be replaced until around 2025 as originally planned and built unchanged until then.

Instead, they want to bring it to a competitive level.

This is to close the gap between Hyundai and Kia, which is causing concern for VW boss Thomas Schäfer and the new CEO Oliver Blume.

Because: The MEB is heavy, loads slowly and doesn't get far enough.

But the potential is there, which is why VW has prescribed a diet for the uniform platform for electric cars.

The charging speed should increase to 175 to 200 kW and then be at “Tesla level”.

For more range, the next battery generation is preferred - which is to be used in 80 percent of Wolfsburg Stromers.

Originally, these were to be used with the next SSP (Scalable Systems Platform) construction kit.

The beauty treatment for the MEB can cost Volkswagen up to 1.5 billion euros.

Volkswagen: New logo and old names for electric cars

But that's not all.

The plans of the top management also concern design and naming.

The VW logo, which was only renewed in 2019, is to be given a fresh coat of paint.

It is considered too dreary and featureless.

There was already a roll backwards with the steering wheel, which will again come with push buttons in the future.

VW boss Schäfer also missed the latter in the electrical plans, after all it is one of the most successful models from Wolfsburg.

He is probably also known as ID.

get a future, as is the case with golf.

The Polo could also remain as an electric car.

It is quite possible that Volkswagen will distinguish between SUV (number) and classic sedan (name) in the future.

What is certain, however, is that after just three years, the ID.3 will already get a facelift next year.

And the announced ID.2 is also to be redesigned again.

Here, however, they are sticking to the fact that the small car should come onto the market in 2025.

However, it is significantly more expensive than originally planned.
