After youth gangs have clashed violently in the past few days, the police are now taking a tough line and are increasingly showing their presence.

They were supported by forces from the riot police and the emergency train from Fürstenfeldbruck.

"We see who is with us and what they have with them," explains Andreas Ruch.

Both the young people themselves and the public should perceive that the police are taking care of the problem.

"It will stay that way for the time being," says Ruch.

What happened so far

Youth gangs have been keeping the police in the district in suspense for weeks.

On April 24th, two rival groups attacked each other on Kennedystrasse in Puchheim.

A 16-year-old was critically injured by knife wounds.

He's doing better now.

The police arrested a suspect.

About a week later, two groups clashed in Germering.

Some of them attacked each other with cutting and stabbing weapons.

One person was slightly injured.

Last Tuesday, around 20 young people arrived at the Bruck vocational school and threatened a student.

Apparently there had been a dispute beforehand.

On the same day, three 14 to 16-year-old youths attacked a 19-year-old at the Eichenau train station.

He had observed the group as they had tampered with the cash box of a newspaper machine.

Social workers lack access

Social workers see a connection with the corona pandemic.

Because youth centers are closed, employees have no access to the youth.

In addition, there are hardly any opportunities for young people to prove themselves and have a sense of achievement.

When a courageous 49-year-old passer-by intervened, the trio fled.

The alerted police were able to arrest the suspects at the age of 14, 15 and 16 years.

They are already known to the officers due to various offenses.

Many have a migration background.

The same protagonists are not always involved in the various incidents.

But there seem to be connections between the groups, says an investigator.

Some of the young people who showed up in front of the Fürstenfeldbruck vocational school on Tuesday are also known in Germering.

The police investigation is difficult.

The victims of attacks would also usually not cooperate with the officials.

The fact that one no longer has access to the young people is a cause for concern.

"I see a social time bomb ticking," said one investigator.

Puchheim's mayor Norbert Seidl also points out this problem.

“You don't even know where the youngsters are,” says the town hall boss.
