House of Representatives votes 352-65 in favour of a ban on TikTok. Bill must now be voted on by the Senate before coming into force.
It would give Chinese technology company ByteDance Ltd about five months to sell it. If the transfer does not occur within this period, the application will no longer be downloadable from the Apple or Google mobile application stores. The campaign against TikTok is motivated by national security concerns. The app, which has more than 170 million American users, has been accused of being a threat to national security.
