Thousands of demonstrators and more than a thousand tractors invaded the streets of Brussels this Thursday around a summit of leaders of the Twenty-Seven Member States. Pallet fires were lit on the road emitting acrid black smoke, slurry was dumped on the pavement and a pile of tires burned earlier in the night.
A statue representing a steelworker was also defaced and unbolted on Place du Luxembourg. We hear French, Dutch, Italian and German speaking. Tractor horns, sounds of firecrackers cracking in the air.
