The Marines' new policy follows that adopted by the US Navy, which already in 2022 made the use of tights optional with skirts. They currently represent 5% of the 175,000 active duty members, as reported by Marine Corps University. According to a spokesperson, the tights requirement was removed because it 'did not pass the common sense test'
